What are Liberty County Public Records?

The Georgia Open Records Act defines Liberty County public record to include any material generated, cataloged, filed, and updated by any public office in the State of Georgia. The term “public records” covers paper documents, audiotapes, statistical tables and graphs, photographs, and documents in electronic formats, such as SMS and emails.   • Prosecution and law enforcement documents and files containing the identity of confidential sources.
  • Georgia Uniform Motor Vehicle Accident Reports.
  • Agricultural data and information considered by the Department of Agriculture as part of critical infrastructure
  • Public employees records that reveal the employee's social security number, home address, credit card information, debit card information, day and month of birth, insurance or medical information, home telephone number, utility account number, mother's maiden name, account number, bank account information, and password used to access his or her bank account.

Liberty County Crime Statistics

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation maintains and publishes the annual crime statistics for every county in the State. Crime statistics for Liberty County are accumulated yearly from local law enforcement offense and arrest reports.

In 2017, there were 2,044 crimes reported in the county. The total crime numbers include 333 violent crimes and 1,711 property crimes. Violent crimes reported include four murders, 16 rapes, 37 robberies, and 276 aggravated assaults. Property crimes reported include 359 burglaries, 1,265 larcenies, 81 motor vehicle thefts, and one arson.

Between 2013 and 2017, crime in Liberty County slightly declined. Comparison between both reports reveals a significant decline in 6 out of 8 major crime rates. Rape, robbery, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson rates declined by 20%, 26%, 33%, 9%, 2%, and 89%, respectively. However, murder and aggravated assault rates increased by 14% and 85%.

According to Georgia state laws, most Liberty criminal records are open and accessible to interested public members. However, juvenile criminal records are sealed and exempt from public access and are only released by a court order directive.

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office acts as the custodian of criminal records at the county level. How to Find Liberty County Inmate Information

The Georgia Department of Corrections maintains an online database of all current and previously incarcerated inmates in any of the state’s jail facilities. Requesters can utilize the online database to search for inmates. To obtain inmate information, search by name or description or use the inmate’s ID and case number.

Similarly, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office provides the public with access to the Current Jail Population database. The online database contains the list of individuals currently incarcerated in the jail facility.
