What are Glynn County Public Records?

As established under the Georgia Open Records Act, Glynn County public records include papers, tapes, letters, files, photographs, and other materials generated, maintained, and issued by government agencies. In most cases, public records are available to the public except when restricted by law. Interested individuals may view or obtain copies of unrestricted documents upon sending requests to the record custodian via mail, online, or in person. However, public records may be legally exempted from public disclosure if they contain:

  • Information related to an ongoing law enforcement investigation
  • Certain real estate documents
  • Attorney-client privilege documents
  • Names of handgun carriers
  • Documents containing private information such as social security number

In addition to government agencies, some public records may also be accessible from third-party websites. These non-government platforms come with intuitive tools that allow for extensive searches. Record seekers may either use these tools to search for a specific record or multiple records. However, users will need to provide enough information to assist with the search, such as:

  • The name of the subject involved in the record (subject must be older than 18 or not juvenile)
  • The address of the requestor
  • A case number or file number (if known)
  • The location of the document or person involved
  • The last known or current address of the registrant

Third-party sites are not sponsored by government agencies. Because of this, record availability and results may vary.

How to Obtain Glynn County Criminal Records

Individuals, criminal justice agencies, and non-criminal justice agencies may request to obtain criminal history information retained by the GCIC on different levels.

Criminal history record checks for employment, licensing, and other non-criminal justice purposes may be requested by the businesses and licensing agencies using the Georgia Applicant Processing Service (GAPS). Individuals may also request fingerprint-based record checks for visa applications, immigration, employment, and other such purposes using GAPS. Alternatively, contact the GCIC at (404) 244-2639 or by email for information on these services.
