How Does a Cobb County Inmate Search Work?
Inmate searches retrieve official records maintained by the Cobb County Sheriff's Office or any relevant authority. Online searches are done against a database that's regularly updated with new information. Database searches typically require that inquirers fill out a search field using specific parameters such as an inmate's full name or an inmate's booking number if known. Results, if found, are then provided.
For search outcomes that produce a list of names, inquirers can obtain more information by clicking on the specific inmate name. While the details vary with inmates, a county inmate search typically provides all or some of the following data.
- The subject's name
- Known aliases
- An inmate mugshot
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Physical description of the inmate, including the subject's weight, height, gender, and eye color
- Scars, tattoos, or any identifying marks
- Inmate's major offense
- Name of correctional institution housing inmate
- Inmate's release date
- Inmate's current status (active, released, paroled, etc.)
- Details of sentence (sentence length)
- Incarnation start and stop
- Case number
Where to Find a Cobb County Inmate Locator
The Cobb County Sheriff's Office provides an online inmate inquiry tool for locating inmates housed within county institutions. Requesters can conduct searches using the inmate's name or SID number if known. Members of the public can also choose to search for inmates known to already be in custody or make inquiries if the subject's status is unclear. In addition to confirming an inmate's status, the tool provides other details such as the number of days the inmate has been in custody, the last known booking, and the inmate's biodata.
Searches for inmates in Cobb County are typically limited to county-run detention centers and city jails. That's because, as of 2023, the Georgia Department of Corrections has no state prisons located within Cobb County. However, residents who wish to find inmates located in state prisons outside the county can do so using the offender search tool provided by the GDC. Members of the public can submit queries using a known first or last name, gender, race, or age. Searches can also be made by case number or ID.
In addition to these options, residents may be able to find inmates using third-party public record services. The search criteria for using such a platform typically include the inmate's full or partial name, as well as the inmate number, if known. However, unlike government tools that provide free access, conducting a search using third-party platforms might require paying a small fee.
